What happens on Club Night?

5:50pm Members start arriving to help set up

 

6pm - 7pm Junior Hour session 

Junior Hour sessions are organised by club volunteers with parents providing supervision and assistance. The session caters mainly for beginners. Sessions are 1 hour long, starting with 15 minutes of interactive chess lecture followed by games with other players and other chess activities. Players are paired by our Club’s system, their results and ranking is recorded in the Club’s system.

7:15pm Club Night Tournament session

This session is for players of all abilities, chess notation to record moves is necessary. Session length depends on the time control of each tournament and how each player makes use of their time. Members participating in the Club Night Tournament session MUST COMMIT to playing every session (some tournaments run across multiple sessions) and report to the arbiter in advance if you plan to miss sessions.

Fairhurst Pawn, 6 Rounds (75mins + 15secs)

R Sutton Rapid, 8 Rounds (25mins + 5secs)

Club Champs, 7 Rounds (75mins + 15secs)

Club Reserve, 7 Rounds (75mins + 15secs)

President’s Cup, 2 Nights Knockout (10mins)

Allegro Rapids, 6 Rounds (25 mins + 5secs)

Booth Shield, 7 Rounds (75mins + 15secs)

Gentil Knight Blitz, 1 Night (3mins + 2secs)

Junior vs Seniors, 3 Nights (60mins + 5secs)

1. Your membership allows you to attend the Junior Hour session AND the Club Night Tournament session.  It is up to members to decide whether they want to participate in one of the sessions only, or both.

2. To participate in the Club Night Tournament session, please check out our events schedule, then register to play in a tournament register online

3. Members participating in the Club Night Tournament session MUST COMMIT to playing every session (some tournaments run across multiple sessions)

 

4. Club Night Tournament sessions - be considerate to other players who are paired against you in advance of each session. Members must advise the tournament arbiter ahead of time if they plan to miss any sessions.

Our Club Night Tournaments are NZCF Rated and our Club Championship Tournament is FIDE Rated.

School Pupils 

School students Years 0-12

Full year membership (when starting in Term 1 or 2 of the calendar year)

Half year membership (when starting in Term 3 or 4 through to the end of the calendar year)

Individual Members 

 

Tertiary Students and Adults who already know how chess pieces move and capture are welcomed to extend and practise their chess skills by playing in tournaments at Club Tournament Night (previously known as Senior Club).

Full year membership (when starting in Term 1 or 2 of the calendar year)

Half year membership (when starting in Term 3 or 4 through to the end of the calendar year)

Associate Member

 

Tertiary Students and Adults who already know how chess pieces move and capture are welcomed to extend and practise their chess skills by playing in tournaments at Club Night.
